Author Names on Research Outputs
Researchers receiving credit for their achievements is an integral part of the academic system. However, following name changes, it can be difficult for researchers to claim this credit for their past work. Scientific publishers allow authors to update their names on publications, but the academic publishing system is complicated to navigate.
Berkeley Lab is offering a service for researchers affiliated with the Lab where we process these changes on their behalf. Utilizing a network that includes various National Labs, academic publishers and others, we implement name changes on past research outputs to ensure that our researchers are able to receive the maximum credit for their academic work.
The changes that we can typically implement include names and other identifying or personal information on published research papers, patents, preprints, conference abstracts, data repositories, indexing services like Web of Science or Scopus, and more. We will implement name changes for any reason, in accordance with the policies at individual partners and publishers.
To learn more about this possibility, or to initiate the process, please email us at namechange@lbl.gov.
No legal documentation is required to implement the name change, and this process will not change an employee’s legal name in Laboratory systems. To make such a change, please reach out to your Division’s HR contact.
