Berkeley Lab employees are expected to devote primary professional allegiance to the Laboratory and its mission. A conflict of interest occurs when an individual’s personal interests – family, financial, or other factors – could compromise his or her judgment, decisions, or actions in the workplace. At Berkeley Lab, we have requirements and processes designed to identify and mitigate conflicts of interest, so that our work remains unbiased, and is conducted in the best interest of the public good. All Berkeley Lab employees must disqualify themselves from making or participating in decisions on behalf of the Laboratory if they have a financial or other interest in a party involved in the decision.
